Something happened when I went to see Man of Steel. I want to know what you thought about the scene and if you experienced anything like I did. Remember at the end when Supes snaps Zod's neck? It was very difficult for him. No, it was more than that, it was tearing him apart to have to do it. I was feeling the emotion of his turmoil, but around me people were cheering. One person said "'Bout time!." (This same person earlier had been wanting Clark to punch the guy that poured beer on him.) I felt like they missed the whole point of the scene. In an action movie there needs to be some conflict. Part of what made Superman Returns such a disappointment was that we saw too little of Supes being super. But have we gotten so desensitized that the only way we can be satisfied is to have the hero put the beat down on everyone that rubs him wrong or take up lethal force as a first response? If he had just KO'd Zod would the scene have gotten the same cheers? Supes could have chosen to push the jerk in the bar around, and the guy would have deserved it, but sometimes it takes more strength to walk away. There were a lot of people there that day that could stand to learn that lashing out with fists and fury isn't what makes a person a hero.

- Pray for the fathers that have taken responsibility in the eyes of the lord and pray that they continue to be an example for their children.
- Pray for the single fathers who struggle with making ends meet and being there for their kids. Its not an easy situation and lets pray on their behalf as well.
- Pray for those of us( namely myself) who have lost their dad and never really had that type of relationship most people take for granted with their fathers or dont have one at all with their real fathers.
One of the main reasons crime has been so prevalent is due to lack of fathers in a relationship at home. To all the fathers out there, love your families, despite what u see in the world. be there for them.

I was wondering other's opinions on vampires in fiction and in the media; personally I have a fascination with vampires in both areas and in the ancient lore behind them. I notice I love movies, games, books and anything that can be related with with vampires, such as the coffins, the bats, the fangs and such. I even did a report on it in school a year or two ago. As a Christian however, I wonder what should my approach/view be of them? I am well aware it's not wise to "try to become/be a vampire" as the Bible tells us not to drink blood. I am also well aware of not getting into the occult ~ as vampires are commonly linked to. Like this article says.

The main reason I ask is because my mother has been asking me what is with "this thing with vampires you have?";
......well not only that since I like "dark things" in general. (Such as skulls, ravens, black, metal, horror, the gothic subculture, etc.)
Going back to what that article said with Vampires being "dabbling in darkness" - what would that make the things I like~? *ahem* I digress.

Though dealing with this "vampire thing" specifically ~ How should I approach this?
Or should my question be, how would I explain myself~?

Oh and is this the correct thread~?
This strikes me as a "gothic" sort of problem since I myself could be considered goth ~ not sure yet though (That's another story for another day)

Most have the idea that sanctification means to become progressively less sinful, therefore, progressively more holy down through the course of time through the avenue of either their promise or performance, their conduct or commitment. Relative righteousness comes into play as we try to sanctify ourselves according to what we perceive in our judicial minds, relative righteousness based, as to be righteous. Therefore, we stop doing some things, and we start doing some other things and we begin to believe that we are a prize package especially if we can relate and be connected to a large group doing the same thing.
OK, so here we go again. A couple years ago I started a thread on Exercise and fell on my face. Weight came off, then the weight returned and brought a few extra pounds with it. Hence the "Return of the W8" title.

This time I am going to go with "Fitness" as the topic here. Fitness is now just about exercise, weight loss, and eating. It is a mindset that I need badly to achieve. As such I saw a site that has a six week challenge for NERDs!

Nerd Fitness Rebellion

I invite you to use this thread to share ideas, triumphs, failures and to provide support for one another. You may want to join the Nerd Fitness Rebellion is you so desire, I already have. But I would like to have my friends here join me on this quest to being a healthier you.

Here are my goals for this six weeks.

1. Healthy eating goal: Reduce sugar intake by drinking less soda and sweat tea. Drink more water. Water is healthy and is actually a goot key to losing weight and feeling healthier. ( I have already bought a Camelbak filter bottle and have been using it regularly. I took this to ConCarolinas and USED IT, a lot.)

2. Weight loss goal: In this 6 week challenge, I want to loss at least 15 lbs. As of right now my scale shows me at 340 lbs. So my goal is 325 by July 15th.

3. My Exercise goal: is to swim or walk for at least 30 minutes 5 times a week.

4. Personal improvement goal: Spend 30 minutes a week cleaning, organizing and purging. This is my hoarder improvement goal. The house is a mess and I need to stop procrastinating and clean this crap up. I might do only 5 minutes a day, or take a 30 minute chunk, but some of this junk needs to go.

I will set a reminder to post my progress here every Monday and invite you to do the same for your progress.

So, to those who would join me, pick no more that 4 realistic goals(see Nerd Fitness Rebellion article about setting goals.) and post them here and update as you can. Lend support to me and I will lend support to you.

The Great Hero Rating Project

During the recently-concluded Grand Tournament of Heroes (held via Facebok), I became aware that one thing which was lacking was any kind of substantial starting point for the discussions which often ensued. Individuals each brought their own, often widely varying, impressions of characters into the discussion, which resulted in widely varying conclusions. This is not necessarily bad, but it occurred to me that some kind of more or less objective means of measuring the relative strengths and weaknesses of the various characters would be useful. And so, I give you the Great Hero Rating Project!

I intend to rate a great many heroes by means of the "wisdom of the crowd." In other words, the FFC membership individually gives me their ratings for a hero, I average them all out, and the results give a reasonable idea of how the hero actually should be rated. I am asking the membership to email me at ffcherorater-at-gmail-dot-com* with their ratings for heroes in the following five categories on a scale of 0 (lowest) to 10,000 (highest):

Strength: Ability to give and absorb physical damage (example of high Strength - The Hulk)
Agility: Ability to dodge/evade attacks (example of high Agility - Spider-Man)
Speed: Ability to get from one point to another fast (example of high Speed - The Flash)
Intelligence: Ability to gather, assimilate, and make use of information (example of high Intelligence - The Doctor)
Power: Cumulative impact of a character's other powers/abilities/skills (example of high Power - Superman)

In honor of his victory in the Grand Tournament of Heroes, our first hero to be rated is The Doctor, as embodied by incarnations 9 through 11. I will post the first set of results next Sunday.

The Doctor
Strength: TBD
Agility: TBD
Speed: TBD
Intelligence: TBD
Power: TBD

Power: TBD

It is a SON issue today, not a SIN issue. The issue is not forgiveness of sin. The issue is believing what Christ accomplished in your behalf, in order to be identified with and joined to Christ himself. Christ believed that God’s justice has been satisfied where the sins he came to sacrifice himself for are concerned, Christ’s faith was and remains in God, and indeed we can believe God’s justice has been satisfied. Christ does not have a wishy-washy faith, it is Christ’s faith who has never, nor will ever waver in faith. It is Christ’s faith that is freely credited to the account of the one who believes the good news given to the apostle Paul to proclaim to us in this age of grace. It is Christ’s faith that righteousifies those who take their stand with God when it comes to what God has stated his son accomplished for them. It was Christ’s faith and as a result, of his faith, his faithfulness that he sacrificed himself and purchased the gift of our salvation. It is our faith in the accomplishment of Christ's faithful sacrifice that is the means whereby God acknowledges that we have accepted the gift his son purchased. Therefore, God is his infinite wisdom devised a plan whereby he could take the very faith belonging to his son along with its resultant faithfulness and credit that faith and faithfulness to the account of those who believe.

God and tragedy

In the aftermath of the tornadoes in Oklahoma and North Texas over the last two weeks, many will wonder in anger, grief, or both, “Where was God when all this was happening?! Why didn’t He stop it?!” My preferred short answer, that God is, was, and always will be on His throne working all things for the good of those who love Him, is true, but it is also insufficient to the task at hand. Tragedies like these are not the time for bumper-sticker theology, which can seem thoughtless and trite at the best of times. No, times like these call for a deeper look at a Biblical approach to and consideration of tragedy.

Jesus Himself was no stranger to tragedies in His own time on earth. Indeed, in Luke 13 we are told explicitly of two apparently well-known tragic events. An unnumbered group of Galileans had been slaughtered by soldiers sent by Pontius Pilate in the midst of making sacrifices, while a tower in Siloam had fallen and killed 18 people. Jesus tell his listeners quite bluntly, that these people did not die because they were somehow worse people than anyone else, followed by a short but sobering warning: “Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” Jesus is teaching that tragedies such as these serve as warnings to the survivors; you just never know how or when your life will end, and so to put off repentance (or, for the saved, to be lazy in the Master’s work) is foolhardy.

Let us also look to perhaps the story of the greatest loss by any person in the history of the world, the story of Job. This story shows us that, at times, God may permit some people to die as part of a trial of another (this raises questions about the deaths of these people, which I will address shortly). Job lost everything: his wealth, his children, and his health. Only his life was spared. Yet, how does Job respond? Surely, he responded in mourning, but not with anger. Challenged by his own wife to curse God and die, Job answers, “Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive disaster.” Earlier, prior to the loss of his health, Job said, “YHWH gave, and YHWH has taken away; blessed be the name of YHWH.” In this, Job speaks truly, that nothing that we have, even family is our possession. All things we have are only received by the gift of the Lord, and may be taken away by Him at His sole discretion. The taking may be slow, or it may be swift, but the taking does not detract from His glory.

Finally, let us remember how David, the man after God’s own heart, responded to his own tragedy, self-wrought though it was. Faced with the death of the child born of his adultery with Bathsheba, despite fervent and heartfelt prayer, David responded in worship, saying to those confused by his response “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept, for I said, ‘Who knows whether YHWH will be gracious to me, that the child may live?’ But now he is dead. Why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me” (2 Samuel 11). David understood rightly that the child’s death was not due to any cruelty on God’s part, but that it would have been nothing but His grace had the child lived. David knew that his child had gone on to heaven, and took solace in the sure knowledge that he would follow him there one day.

These things very well may seem cold of heart, to one who is suffering in the midst of tragedy, yet they are true, and serve to remind us that our reliance ought not to be on material things or even on other people, as beloved as they may be. Our reliance, our hope, and our peace ought only be found in YHWH, and at such times as these, when our finite minds struggle (and at times fail) to find the meaning in tragedy and suffering, let us turn to the One who knows all ends from the beginning, never takes His eyes off of His children (Matthew 10), and is always and forever working all things toward the eternal good of His own (Romans 8).

I don't know what took so long for me to post this here, but here it goes....

If you are planning on going to Dragon*Con and for some reason have NOT bought your ticket, and have some Tech skills (which they say they are almost to the point of just needing warm bodies) Then you should think about volunteering at Dragon*Con under TechOps group! They need a minimum of 50 more people this year.

Brian has been working with this group and this year will be my first with them, and Mallory might be joining as well... will you?

There is way more information than this, but if you want more I can give it to those that want it.

http://techops.net/join/
This is the link to ask to join the group, but make sure you check out or ask me about what volunteering all involves...

Also, pass on to people who you think might be interested and able...

We cannot earn salvation, and we can never lose salvation, because salvation is based not upon what we do, or promise to do, but upon what Christ has already done for us! What an astounding truth to ponder and really come to understand; a gift declaration of righteousness to those who could never gain that declaration through performance. Does that mean that once we are saved, we can just go out and do anything we want to do; live anyway we want to live and still be saved? Self-sanctification is sitting at the core in a negative way in the mindset of the person who is posing that question. Paul proves that question to be just the opposite.

Grace is a much greater motivator. It is the love of God that constrains us, not fear that God is going to strike us dead, or allow us to be a part of the second death if we perform what we should not be performing, or do not measure up through our performance. Are people set apart as holy in God’s sight because of their lack of sin, or are people set apart as holy in God’s sight because he has joined them to his son? God has a purpose for those who believe, by placing the believer into his son. God did not predestinate us to believe, he predestinated us to be conformed to the image of his son, because he knew who would believe. We must understand that God has predetermined to glorify us. In fact, God has predestined us to that glorification. To predestinate simply means to decide and decree in advance the destiny of something.

Should we just go out and sin all the more now that we know that God’s grace is given to us as a gift simply when we believe his son died for our sins, and put those sins off the table of God’s justice. The natural man has his mind tuned in only to the channel of his own human perspective; satisfying the lust of his flesh; the lust of his eyes; and the pride of life. If something is not logical to the natural man’s way of thinking, he refuses to believe it, whether God said it or not, he wants to remain in his comfort zone. God is not giving out his righteousness as a reward to those who are sorry for the past, and who promise to do their best in the future. At the point of our belief in what Christ accomplished where our sins are concerned, we are as closely associated with Christ as anyone could be, we are joined to him. What an ingenious salvation plan, to take someone else that is righteous and join us to that person, therefore what is Christ’s is ours! It is a gift, a declaration of rightness with God, and this comes totally apart from that unrighteous person’s production.
